Business drivers are collecting more fines for speeding than for any other motoring offence, according to new figures.
A recent survey of GE Capital Solutions’ 55,000 strong fleet found that the majority of fines (41%) collected over the past year resulted from drivers breaking the speed limit.
Other common offences included avoiding the congestion charge and the accumulation of parking fines, however these indiscretions only totalled around half the number of speeding tickets, at 22% and 20% respectively.
Rich Green, managing director at GE Fleet Services, said, “While these figures are drawn entirely from our fleet of 55,000 vehicles and therefore not entirely representative of what is happening on our roads, we believe that the sample size is big enough to provide a good general picture of the fines being paid by company car drivers and their employers.
“Our belief is that there is clearly a hard core of company car drivers who are habitually exceeding the speed limit and this recklessness places themselves and other road users in danger. Fleets should take action,” he said.
GE’s Fleet Services division has also revealed the authorities, including councils and constabularies, responsible for issuing the penalties.
London dominates as the most common place for fleet drivers to acquire fines and GE drivers received more fines from Congestion Charging London than from any of the other top ten issuing authorities put together.
