Fleet managers need to understand what is going on inside their drivers’ heads if they are to help prevent road crashes, according to Dr Lisa Dorn from Cranfield University.

In an attempt to educate about the importance of understanding driver psychology, the road safety charity, Brake is organising a ‘meet the expert’ workshop at which delegates will have the chance to listen to and learn from Dr Dorn.

Dr Dorn is a leading academic in the research and analysis of driver behaviour, and has developed driver training and support tools.

She said: “Research shows that how a driver thinks and feels affects decision making.

"I hope this workshop will give professionals the opportunity to learn more about driver attitudes and behaviour, and how providing feedback can raise awareness of the human factors that contribute to crashes.”

The workshop will explore driver psychology and its connection to road crashes.

In addition, the doctor will present Cranfield's latest research and demonstrate its newest technology: the ‘DriverMetrics’ online psychometrically-based driver assessment tool.
