SEAT has whipped the covers off its new Ibiza supermini.

The new five-door car, hinted at by the recent Bocanegra concept, marks the start of a blitz of new SEAT products over the coming months, including more Ibiza variants, and new saloon and estate models.

Designed by ex-Lamborghini stylist Luc Donckerwolke, the new car features a seven-speed DSG gearbox, Hill Hold Assist and a socket for MP3 players.

Space inside is improved over the outgoing model, with more rear legroom and class leading boot space.

Power will initially come from three petrol engines – a 1.2-litre with 69bhp, an 84bhp 1.4 or a 1.6 with 101bhp. All have emissions of less than 160g/km, and a range of TDI diesel engines will be introduced as well.

The new Ibiza will go on sale in mid-to-late summer.
