Volkswagen UK has confirmed to AM that Simon Elliott will head its Commercial Vehicles division.

FNO revealed Elliott had resigned as managing director of Chrysler UK only six months after he returned to the role with a welcome from its retail network, whose performance had struggled in his absence.

Volkswagen confirmed that Elliott has been appointed director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in the UK, a role which has been vacant since Elliott's predecessor, Robert Hazelwood, moved to within the Volkswagen Group to become director of Skoda UK in March.

Elliott started his career at Volkswagen in vehicle logistics and sales before being promoted to a variety of sales and marketing roles.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles achieved its eighth consecutive year of growth last year with record UK sales of 30,427.

The development of the brand continued this year with the launch of a new range of panel vans and passenger carriers - the Caddy Maxi and Caddy Maxi Life.

"Simon brings a wealth of experience and I am very pleased to welcome him back to the Volkswagen Group," said Robin Woolcock, managing director, Volkswagen Group (UK) Ltd.

Further details of when Elliott will commence his role at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be announced in due course.
