FN50: Recession warning for fleet managers

(FN50 event:) British businesses have been warned that recession is looming over the country creating some of the most challenge conditions for fleets and suppliers in decades.

Economic forecasts from the European Commission predict that growth will fall by 0.2% in each of the third and fourth quarters of this year, an even sharper slowdown than predicted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development recently, which suggested contraction at less than 0.1% per quarter.

The prediction was made before the latest crisis of confidence in the banking industry on Monday, when American bank Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with debts of billions of pounds, which sent shockwaves through the stock markets.

The crisis is damaging business confidence and drying up credit lines for British businesses, putting massive pressure on profits for most sectors.

To help fleet suppliers put the impact of the latest developments into perspective for their industry, the annual FN50 Conference will providing some of the most respected economists and experts in the country to set the scene for the future of the fleet market.

The conference has been developed through extensive research within the industry and is focused on helping fleet suppliers to overcome the challenges they face over the next year.

Respected speakers

Among the speakers taking part is Mark Berrisford-Smith, chief UK economist for HSBC.

He is responsible for advising the Bank and its customers on developments in the UK and global economies, and the performance of regions and key industry sectors.

Delegates at the conference will also be guided by the chairman, respected business expert and futurologist James Bellini.

In addition, Michelle Mone, founder of MJM International and one of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs will be providing valuable incite into maintaining business focus despite challenging conditions.

The event is sponsored by Kwik-Fit Fleet and Total Accident Management.
