Police in 23 countries across Europe issued more than 132,000 penalties during a week-long seatbelt clampdown, with Germany catching the largest number of offenders.

In the UK, 8,865 offences were recorded in the campaign putting it in third place, compared to Germany’s 41,035 and Ireland with the fewest at 343.
