Fleets are being invited to trial a new phone management system prior to its launch in the New Year.

The technology, which was revealed by Fleet News (September 2) during development, aims to put the fleet manager in the driving seat when it comes to enforcing a hands-free policy.

“All employers have a responsibility for the health and safety of all their employees while at work,” said Dave Woodcock, national account manager at Chameleon Codewing.

“If your work involves driving, having a simple ‘no using the phone while driving’ policy may not be effective enough. How do you police it? CellControll gives you that ability.”

A small Bluetooth-enabled hardware module plugs directly into a vehicle’s on-board diagnostics port and links wirelessly to software installed on the driver’s mobile phone, PDA or laptop.

As soon as the vehicle is in motion, the software can lock out some or all of the phone’s capabilities, including calls, texting, and email.

Any organisation interested in trialling the device can contact Dave Woodcock on 01206 500843 or dwoodcock@thechameleongroup.co.uk
