Aixam Mega is introducing a new AC motor drivetrain for its Mega e-City urban vehicles and Mega Multitruck commercial ranges.

Vehicles with the new drivetrain will be on show for the first time at the Commercial Vehicle Operator Show at the NEC, Birmingham, in April.

This vehicle upgrade gives users between 5-10% more range, depending on road conditions and driving style, and acceleration improvements quoted at 30% for the Mega e-City and ten per cent for Mega Multitrucks, according to Aixam Mega.

Aixam Mega national sales manager Justin Bond said: “This latest introduction is part of Aixam Mega’s ongoing programme of product development to ensure that businesses and private motorists in the UK have access to cost-effective, practical electric vehicles today.

“The alternative is to wait perhaps years for other manufacturers to produce new, completely unproven electric vehicles that will carry a heavy price tag.”

Other modifications to the new Mega electric vehicles include a new battery temperature sensor and a new current sensor for enhanced control of the charging process, and a boost mode switch (in place of the Hi/Lo option) for better performance on an incline.

There is also an enhanced braking system that improves driver feel and gives more regenerative current.
