AA DriveTech will provide a dedicated fuel economy driving course for Ford owners who have an Econo Check.

The Econo Check consists of a 35 point vehicle check, including items that influence fuel consumption, and the fitment of a Data Logger. The Data Logger records driving data over the period of a week, which allows the analysis of driving techniques which affect fuel consumption.

Once the data logger has been returned to Ford by the driver at the end of the assessment period, the Ford Econo Check report will follow, giving personalised recommendations for optimising driving style to make that gallon go further.

At this stage the driver will also receive the information on how to sign up for the Econo Driver Training course.

Ford estimate that with the consistent application of Eco driving techniques, as explained in both the Econo Check report and Econo Driver Training course, that savings of up to 25% are achievable.

As a guide, using conservative figures and based on petrol costing £5.00 per gallon by January next year and a figure of 15% fuel savings, drivers of small petrol engined cars doing about 250 miles a week, could expect payback of the course cost in around 20 weeks.

“With the AA predicting that fuel prices will reach record levels by January there has never been a better time to hone your driving skills and reap the rewards,” says Paul Holmes, AA DriveTech’s fleet director. “We’re pleased that our long track record of delivering effective fuel economy courses to the corporate sector has been recognised by Ford and we hope that many Ford owners will now take advantage of the opportunity to save money, as well as reduce their impact on the environment.”
