Air Products has announced it intends to add two new hydrogen fuelling stations in London to create a network of five, as part of the CHIC (Clean Hydrogen In European Cities) Project.

Its two new fuelling stations will be in East London and a central location. Its existing fuelling stations are at Heathrow, East London and north of London at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedford.

Emma Guthrie, business development manager at Hydrogen Energy Systems, said: "Air Products sees the short-term future of hydrogen transport in the UK as based around clusters of hydrogen infrastructure and London is ideal for this.

"Five hydrogen fuelling stations are enough to make it possible for a number of fleets of buses, cars and other vehicles to build a real presence for hydrogen transport in the capital."

Last year BOC opened the UK's first public-access hydrogen refuelling station at the Honda of the UK Manufacturing site on the outskirts of Swindon.
