London minicab company Greentomatocars has switched to a full Michelin tyre policy in an effort to reduce its fleet’s CO2 emissions.

Its fleet of 300 cars will be fitted with Michelin Energy Saver+ tyres.

Jonny Goldstone, managing director of greentomatocars, said: “We have been thoroughly impressed with the tyres since we started using them in February this year.

“Since then our fleet of Toyota Prius and Citroën people carriers has travelled more than three million miles, and the tyres have proved extremely reliable and cost effective for our business.

“Equally important to us is that Michelin is concerned about the environment and its tyres help us in our overall mission to provide the greenest minicab service in London.”

The Michelin Energy Saver+, which has been specifically designed for city cars, MPVs and family cars, can reduce vehicle running costs as the tyre’s silica-based rubber compound has a low rolling resistance, which means less fuel is used.

Dave Crinson, head of fleet sales for Michelin, said: “Whole life cost is a key consideration that fleet managers need to take into account.

"It’s refreshing and encouraging to see a fleet operating in the competitive London market considering the environmental and safety benefits of the tyres, rather than simply the purchase price.”
