The rapidly falling price of tablets is making them ideal for a wide range of fleet applications that wouldn’t have been considered even a year ago, says Chevin Fleet Solutions.

The company points out that a reasonably well-equipped Android tablet can now be bought for around £100 and used to access and update many different kinds of data relating to fleet and other business applications.

Ashley Sowerby (pictured), managing director of Chevin Fleet Solutions, said: “At this price, giving one to employees as an easy method of accessing and recording relevant information, whether relating directly to the fleet such as mileage, or almost any other workflow process, is extremely cost-effective.”

Sowerby pointed to the new FleetWave Mobile app that has just been launched by Chevin and is designed to be used in conjunction with the company’s FleetWave fleet management system.

It will work on Android and mobile Windows smartphones and tablets with an Apple iOS version also in development.

The app can be adapted to the needs of individual organisations to gather fleet or other operational information using manual input, QR codes, bar codes or pictures.

It does not have to be online to capture data – information can be stored and then uploaded later on.
