CitySprint has announced the acquisition of Heathrow Baggage Services, the Heathrow-based luggage repatriation, replacement and repair business, as it looks to support its growing luggage delivery brand CityBags.

The Heathrow Baggage Services operations and team have been transferred to CityBags.

This marks CitySprint’s third acquisition in as many months and will provide CityBags – its burgeoning luggage business – with scale and reach, offering Heathrow Baggage Services’ customers an enhanced service through its use of leading-edge technology and unrivalled service and national coverage.

CitySprint was backed by Dunedin, the midmarket private equity house, in 2010 and has since taken an ambitious approach to growth.

CityBags itself was originally part of Lewis Day courier operations, which CitySprint acquired in November 2011.

Patrick Gallagher, CEO, CitySprint said: “This is an exciting development for our business.

“This deal marks yet another integral part of our continued growth strategy and we are privileged to have the opportunity to diversify into the luggage delivery market.

“We plan to continue consolidating our position at Heathrow to ensure that we can offer customers the best possible service.”

George Poole, founder and managing director of Heathrow Baggage Services, who will be overseeing the transition, added: “CityBags shares our dedication to customer service, and understands how distressing problems with luggage can be, so we’ll be working closely to ensure that business continues as usual throughout the process.”
