Toyota is hoping to boost take-up of its hybrid models with a smartphone app that shows company car costs and comparisons with non-hybrid rivals.

"The information is of particular relevance when it comes to highlighting the benefits of hybrid transport and we have timed the launch to coincide with the arrival of our new Auris Touring Sports model," Toyota GB president Jon Williams told Fleet News. 

Available as a free download, the Complete Company Car Tax Guide explains how business cars are treated for tax purposes and features a calculator function that provides benefit in kind and company National Insurance rates over a three-year period.

"We're using the app to highlight the fact that hybrid cars represent a very attractive proposition in the corporate sector because they are particularly cost effective to operate. However, more detailed calculations will be available on the laptops carried by our field force.

"As accountants tend to make hefty charges for discounted cashflow calculations regarding the acquisition of assets, we think this extra service will help potential customers save money," he said.
