Two of the UK’s leading food logistics providers have turned to Vision Unique Equipment (VUE) to bolster their fleet road safety.
Frozen Food logistics giant, Yearsley Logistics, and the UK’s largest independent drinks wholesale, LWC Drinks, have both selected camera systems manufactured by telematics and vehicle CCTV expert VUE.
Across the two commercial fleets, VUE will be installing more than 175 in-vehicle camera systems which are designed to give HGV drivers 360-degree visibility, helping to eliminate blind spots and protect the fleets from fraudulent insurance claims.
Yearsley Logistics has installed VUE’s forward facing video data recorder (VDR) cameras in 70 HGV tractor units, as well as specifying the CCTV camera system in 10 brand new Mercedes Tractor units.
Will Maycock, head of transport at Yearsley Logistics, said: “VUE’s technology is an important part of our fleet safety strategy, since working with VUE we’ve reduced our fleet risk and accident rates.
“We have been so impressed with the results we’re now also installing VUE’s latest VDR 8 camera HD systems into five new build rigid vehicles. This advanced technology automatically records accidents and will provide us with an accurate record of time, date, location and 360 degree street view image of the incident location.
“All this information is admissible court evidence and will help us to contest fraudulent and non-fault accident claims.”
Following successful trials LWC drinks is installing five VDR HD systems and integrating existing camera and monitors into 72 of its HGV delivery fleet.
The drinks wholesaler has also ordered VUE’s three camera VDR system and mirror monitors for 33 of its vans.
The front, rear facing and nearside cameras will allow images to be displayed live on a screen in the cab whilst capturing and bookmarking instances of excessive G-force, speed and heavy braking.
David Barnes, transport manager at LWC Drinks, said: “We carry out more than 4,800 deliveries a week and our motor fleet is on the road seven days a week.
“Fleet safety is of the upmost importance to us and that’s why we selected VUE technology which is there to prevent and protect them.
“The camera and monitor systems will give drivers a clear view of the road, traffic and pedestrians around them. It also helps our fleet managers to analyse driver behaviour and work to reduce the risk of incidents.”
Glen Mullins, managing director at VUE, said “At VUE we are dedicated to helping improve driver behaviour to help make roads safer and it’s fantastic to be working with two of the UK’s biggest food logistics businesses.
“We work with a number of commercial fleet owners and insurance companies which have seen that CCTV technology, when professionally interpreted, improves driver behaviour and attitude, with the result of improved safety on the roads.
“Our aim is to help as many fleet owners as possible reduce the number of accidents their drivers have, improve safety for other road users and reduce insurance costs – but also protect drivers from other road users.”
Based in Trafford Park, Manchester, VUE has annual sales of £4 million and was awarded the Highly Commended Fleet Safety Product award at the Brake Fleet Safety Awards in 2013.
The vehicle CCTV and telematics company works with many of the leading commercial fleets in the UK and is recommended by major insurance companies.
