Hyundai will be breaking new ground in the UK next year as it enters the executive saloon sector with the rear-wheel drive executive saloon.

Fleet director Martin Wilson told Fleet News that the company is still undergoing growth in the fleet sector, and would benefit from new products that would arrive on the market in the next two years, including the new Genesis saloon.

“It will be very small numbers but it will be hi-tech and demonstrate what the brand is capable of. We’re under no illusions as to how difficult that sector of the market is, but we want to showcase our future technology and believe the time is right.”

The launch of the Genesis will follow the new i20, and a new ix35 is also in the pipline.

Wilson was also optimistic about how hydrogen fuel cell technology would develop in the future, and forecast that the technology that currently allows more than 300 miles on a tank in a 136hp car would improve rapidly.

Hyundai will have full production capability for fuel cell cars from 2015.
