In light of the energy crisis, the importance of being on the ‘most suitable’ energy tariff for electric vehicle (EV) charging has been stressed by Rightcharge and the Zemo Partnership.

Colin Hennessy, commercial manager at Rightcharge, stated that a fleet driver could save up to £1,000 (depending on the mileage), by being on the most suitable tariff.

Hennessy said that “providing a service that puts the right charger in front of the customer is a great retention opportunity”.

He added: “You’ve given them great advice, they’ve gone away feeling happy and they’re not having to take the charger off the wall in two years’ time, because they now want to get solar and want the benefits of having solar on their property and charging their car as well.”

A survey conducted by Rightcharge revealed that 31% of drivers felt like they had the wrong charge point installed, while 59% said they felt the process of having a charge point installed was ‘overwhelming’.

Hennessy said, “solar is fast becoming a good way to power an EV” and the company is seeing upsurge in the installation of solar panels to power charge points.

“It’s important to offer choice and future-proof those choices as well,” Hennessy said.

Andy Eastlake, chief executive officer (CEO) at Zemo Partnership, also said EV charging “needs to be part of the service offering”.

He said: “Particularly in the company car space where people are moving into an EV, drivers are always used to the vehicle choice and the specification, but they're not used to thinking about how to fuel it, because that was either done and they didn't have to worry about it because it was a card, and it was all paid for.

“But now if we're charging at home, range, these are all new things and that needs to be part of the service offering and the advice you give people is about chargers, range, electricity, energy tariffs, not just the spec of car. It’s very much a different mindset that you can move into.”
