Brake has recognised organisations for their contribution to improving the safety of at-work drivers at its annual Fleet Safety Awards, with Gateshead Council and TomTom Telematics picking up two awards each.

The winners were announced at a ceremony held last night (Thursday, October 1) at St John’s Hotel in Solihull, Birmingham. The awards, sponsored by Arval, were attended by more than 350 guests, making it Brake’s biggest safety awards to date.

Fleet News editor-in-chief Stephen Briers was a member of the judging panel. 

This is the second time that Gateshead Council has been honoured in the past week - the council's fleet manager Graham Telfer was named Fleet Manager of the Year at the Commercial Fleet Awards

Transport for London which won Fleet of the Year – 1001-plus vehicles at this year's Fleet News Awards also collected a Brake Fleet Safety Award as did Iron Mountain (Fleet of the Year – up to 250 vehicles at the Fleet News Awards). 

Individual awards went to Astrid van der Burgt of Kuehne + Nagel and Alison Moriarty of Skanska, with the Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety going to Richard Owen, of Road Safety Analysis.
