Fleet managers can find out how to make the business case for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) at Fleet Management Live, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on October 6 and 7.

Fleet Management Live is Fleet News’s major new event, which is aimed at company car decision-makers – whether they are traditional fleet operators or procurement, finance, HR, travel and facilities professionals who also have fleet responsibilities.

Representatives from the Go Ultra Low campaign will be holding a free to attend best practice session explaining the wholelife cost savings that companies could make by choosing vehicles with CO2 emissions of 75g/km or less.

Go Ultra Low, which was set up by the UK automotive industry and Government to highlight the benefits of ULEVs, suggests that fleet operators could save nearly £9,000 by running a ULEV over four years.

This is based on fuel savings of £3,000 (an average fuel cost of £750 per year compared to 2p per mile electric cost) and tax savings of £5,972  (including the Government’s plug-in grant of up to £8,000 towards the purchase price of a van).

The savings also take into account the lowest levels of company car tax (5% for vehicles with CO2 emissions of 50g/km or less and 9% for vehicles emitting 51-75g/km, for the current tax year), exemption from Vehicle Excise Duty and 100% first year writing down allowance.

During the best practice workshop, representatives from Go Ultra Low will also demonstrate how residual values for ULEVs are improving and the wide variety of vehicles available on the market today.

Hetal Shah, head of Go Ultra Low, said: “The business case for choosing ultra-low emission vehicles has never been stronger – with over 30 types available offering a range of unique benefits, we can’t wait to put this case forward at Fleet Management Live."
