Smartdriverclub launches mileage capture app

Connected car service Smartdriverclub has launched a mileage capture app, Business Miles, which allows drivers to download business and personal miles directly from their car.

Smartdriverclub, which gets cars connected via a plug-in device behind the steering colum, costs £6.60 per month and includes a number of services such as crash alerts which can speed up the response of emergency services, breakdown recovery support and warnings of any emerging problems in the car.

All the drivers’ information and services are viewable via an online portal or the Smartdriverclub app called Viewpoint.

Business Miles allows drivers to tag journeys as business or personal, and set business hours into the app to ensure automatic tagging of any miles driven. This results in a full report of all miles driven for business, which can be loaded directly into an expenses claim. The tracking feature also enables the driver to provide ‘evidence of trip’ to validate any claims.

Penny Searles, CEO of Smartdriverclub, said: “We’ve worked out drivers can easily waste five days a year working out mileage claims equating to at least £500 in the cost of their time, and that’s not factoring in loss of money through inaccurate mileage information.

“Business Miles cuts the time it can take to complete expenses forms, improves the accuracy so that drivers don’t miss out and guarantees all information necessary for HMRC is provided in full.

"This is the first in a number of enhancements we are making to give drivers much greater control over their car costs and their safety through connectivity.”
