ChargePoint and Apple have rolled out an integration that shows vehicle charging infrastructure data on all compatible CarPlay vehicle infotainment displays.

Any vehicle that can run Apple CarPlay through an iOS 14 or above connected device will be able to check electric vehicle charging station statuses, join waitlists and start charging sessions from their infotainment system.

Waitlists let EV drivers get in the queue at charging stations when all of the ports are full.

Drivers will also be able to use the ChargePoint data through CarPlay to filter charging stations based on speed of the charger, cost, availability and plug type, find recent stations and access favorite charging spots.

Bill Loewenthal, ChargePoint senior vice president, product, said: “The shift to electric mobility is transforming the driver experience, and ChargePoint’s integration with CarPlay is another pivotal step in the evolution already underway, driven by software and increased connectivity.

“The connection between the app and vehicle represents the next step in how drivers and passengers will experience mobility in the future, accelerated by the global shift to electric drive.”

ChargePoint’s network has grown to more than 114,300 places to charge with drivers plugging in approximately every two seconds while delivering more than 80 million charges.

ChargePoint also offers access to an additional 133,000 public places to charge through network roaming integrations across Europe and North America.
