Genesis, the luxury arm of Hyundai, has published the first images of the GV60, its first dedicated electric platform-based vehicle.

The Genesis brand’s second electric car, GV60 is based on a dedicated full-electric platform called, E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), signalling the brand’s direction towards electrification.

Dominique Boesch, managing director for Genesis Motor Europe, said: “When we launched in Europe, we committed to bringing three electric cars to the region within our first year; we are proud to confirm the GV60 will be our second electric car for Europe, following soon after the launch of the electrified G80.

“The GV60, Genesis' first on a dedicated electric platform, will provide a totally new experience as a luxury electric vehicle based on our unique brand identity and will also benefit from our unique customer focused offering where service come before sales."

Full specifications, performance and European pricing will be released in due course.

Genesis first launched as a brand in South Korea and following success in the US, Canada, Russia, the Middle East and Australia, it has set its sights on Europe and China.

The brand will kick-off its European introduction with the launch of the G80 electric saloon and promises to launch two further electric models within a year.

In other markets the G80 saloon and GV80 SUV are offered with a range of petrol engines. It has not been confirmed what powertrains will be offered when the vehicles arrive in the UK.

Genesis will operate a digital sales model, similar to Polestar, relying on online sales rather than physical dealerships.

A brand-operated London store at Westfield Shopping will be its only physical retail presence when sales get underway, with home or office delivery and collection at the heart of a ‘Genesis difference’ retail model.

Pivotal to the brand experience will be the appointment of a Genesis personal assistant, recruited from hospitality and retail sectors, who will manage every aspect of the buying and ownership experience.
