Mazda has added a diesel powertrain to its CX-60 SUV, which launched earlier this year with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The CX-60 e-Skyactiv D is powered by a 3.3-litre six-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system.

It emits from 129g/km, making it considerably more frugal than rival vehicles with a similar size powertrain.

The e-Skyactiv D is offered with 200PS and rear-wheel-drive or 254PS and all-wheel-drive. Its high torque output gives the car a 2,500kg trailer weight towing capacity.

The 200PS achieves up to 56mpg, while the 254PS manages 53mpg and 137g/km.

Prices start at £42,990 for the 200PS output engine in Exclusive-Line trim. The higher-output engine starts from £45,630.

Refinement was a key development goal of the all-new Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv D diesel and the in-line configuration produces less vibration due to its characteristic ‘perfect balance’, for a smooth and quiet engine tone, whilst delivering a clean and engaging sound.

Jeremy Thomson, Mazda Motors UK managing director, said: “While the PHEV will be the biggest selling CX-60 in the UK, the new six-cylinder diesel is a fantastic example of Mazda’s long-standing reputation for engine innovation and it will be a superb choice for many retail customers looking for a high-quality large premium SUV with a clean and efficient diesel engine.”

An in-line straight-six 3.0-litre e-Skyactiv petrol engine will join the e-Skyactiv D and e-Skyactiv PHEV to complete the Mazda CX-60 powerplant line-up at a later date.
