Mazda has confirmed it will launch two new SUV models in the next two years, which will feature plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The car maker has also announced a range extender version of the MX-30 electric car.

The Mazda CX-60 and CX-80 models will be sold alongside the existing CX-30 and CX-5 SUVs, but will bring new powertrain options.

A four-cylinder petrol plug-in hybrid will be offered on both models. The powertrain is likely sourced from Mazda’s strategic partner Toyota and related to the one used in the RAV4 PHEV.

Mazda will also offer a new six-cylinder SkyactivX petrol engine and a six-cylinder diesel, both with mild-hybrid systems.

Featuring two-row and three-row seating respectively, Mazda says the new models meet the growing needs of the segment.

The car maker has also announced that its fully-electric MX-30 model will be available with a rotary engine range extender in the first half of 2022, providing a boost to the car’s range.

From around 2025, Mazda plans to introduce a number of new products on a new EV-dedicated platform.
