The Mazda CX-60 PHEV has moved into the 8% benefit-in-kind (BiK) tax band following clarification of HMRC company car tax rules.

The car previously sat in the 12% band, as its official electric range was under the required 40-mile threshold.

Mazda said HMRC has now confirmed that the tax bracket calculation can be made by rounding up the range. As the CX-60 PHEV has an official range of 39.15 miles, it therefore qualifies for the lower tax rate.

A statement issued by the car maker said: "The CX-60 PHEV is one of the few models in the this sector that sit in the 8 per cent BIK bracket, making Mazda’s flagship SUV is a great choice for company car drivers."

Prices for the CX-60 PHEV start at £45,365, meaning drivers in the 20% tax bracket will pay from £60 per month in BIK - a saving of £30 per month when compared to old banding.

The CX-60 went on sale in March last year and the first examples arrived on UK roads in the autumn. It's the largest model in Mazda UK's line-up and the brand's first car to feature a plug-in hybrid engine.
