Advanced Supply Chain Group (ASCG) has invested £5.7million in its fleet with the addition of 56 Mercedes-Benz tractor units.

The investment follows what the Group has called a “strong first quarter” due to several new contracts with retailers such as, BHS International and Urban Outfitters.

The Mercedez-Benz Actros 6x2 tractor units will be fully operational within just a few weeks. In addition, the Euro 6 engine will save on annual, approximately three tonnes of CO2 in comparison to a first generation engine – the Group claims.

ASCG has worked alongside Hexagon Leasing to fit each unit with additional components including VT brake safe, lane assist and chassis infills.

ASCG’s chief financial officer Glyn Rogan said: “From an operational perspective, efficiency and reliability is always a key focus and maintaining a modern fleet is a central part of meeting our business goals. Fleet renewal is every four to seven years – we’ve made this investment much sooner, just three years since we welcomed the last tranche of vehicles.”

Hexagon Leasing’s commercial director Mark Fletcher said: “The new Mercedes-Benz fleet not only allows ASCG to maintain operational excellence and do justice to its customers’ brands, but is a real boon for its drivers, with the safest and most comfortable driving conditions. We’re looking forward to working with ASCG to ensure that the fleet continues to deliver the very best performance in the coming months and years.”

June will see the launch of ASCG’s inaugural ‘king of the road’ initiative. One driver will get their hands on a black gloss unit boasting a host of added extras including “a luxury bed and fridge”.

The cab will be given to the driver that tops rankings for customer service, driving style and fuel economy performance categories.
