Landscaping, estates management and play space provider TCL Group has selected Trakm8 to provide telematics for its 400-strong van fleet.

TCL Group awarded the contract to Trakm8 after a competitive tender process. Trakm8 has fitted hardwired tracking devices to TCL’s fleet, which is mainly comprised of Ford Transits. The telematics specialist has also supplied some plug-and-play devices for the commercial vehicles which TCL hires in.

David Pennell, group fleet manager for TCL, said: “Trakm8 had the right mixture of technology for us. Our priorities were to further improve fleet safety and increase fuel economy. Trakm8 enables us to address both of those areas.”

Trakm8’s comprehensive telematics solution includes driver behaviour analytics, which are proven to help fleets reduce accident rates, cut insurance premiums and improve average fleet MPG.

“We have definitely seen an improvement in fuel consumption,” said Pennell. “We were also able to negotiate a reduction in our insurance premium, as our insurer acknowledges that driver behaviour systems like this reduce road risk.”

Trakm8’s EcoN driver behaviour creates a percentage score for each journey, with drivers losing points for engaging in higher-risk or fuel-thirsty activities such as over-revving, heavy acceleration, harsh braking, sharp cornering, and engine idling. Fleet managers have oversight of all driver scores, while drivers can monitor their individual performance via Trakm8’s mobile app.
