Transport Manager

Salary: £30,000 to £32,000

Job Purpose: To manage the transport operation efficiently to achieve targeted performance levels

Key Accountabilities:

To manage the overall operation of the depot on a day to day basis ensuring that

agreed targets are achieved in line with business and customer requirements.

To continually control cost to ensure the Site operationally meets or exceeds budget

targets.

To monitor the depot’s operational activities ensuring that contractual obligations for

customers are achieved, generating solutions for improvement where necessary.

To work collaboratively with the on site customer to achieve required service levels in

alignment with customer demands

To maximise the potential of new employees by ensuring their operational and

psychological engagement and their continual development within the business.

To ensure appropriate understanding to enable individuals to meet their role

requirements and to create involvement and engagement through two way

communication mechanisms.

To ensure the Site is legally compliant by ensuring correct processes are in place, have

an owner and are monitored.

To ensure reporting deadlines are met for both Financial and Compliance requirements.

To proactively promote a health & safety culture

To ensure that the use of core / agency staff , own fleet / hire vehicles and

subcontractors are optimised in line with business requirements (i.e. resource levels

are appropriate for the volumes)

To manage customer perception through meeting service levels, ensuring service

failures are communicated effectively and that recurring issues are resolved.

To Ensure full compliance with XPO policy / procedures

To manage non conformance/depot reporting ensuring that all necessary information is

captured and input, to deadlines,

To support & encourage a good team working spirit and ensure that the transport team

work effectively with the Planning team and communicate frequently to achieve the

business objectives.

To follow all HR requirements in relation to disciplinary, absence management and

return to work situations. Ensure all company policies and procedures are observed.

Communicate as necessary with the Site/General Manager, on all matters that may

affect service levels or impact on other Site operations Provide support and cover for

Site/General Manager

To undertake any other reasonable task as required.

To undertake any relevant training events in line with own personal development needs

and business requirements

To support wider business and contract as required.

Experience:

Experience supervising or managing a team in a complex logistics,

transport & manufacturing environment

Experience of improving employee engagement

Understands and has experience of change management practices.

Experience of managing conflicting priorities in a fast moving

environment and planning and organising skills

Experience of developing relationships with trade unions or employee

work groups
