The overall purpose of the role is to manage the distribution of customer orders and deliveries across a designated area through leading a professional, stock, yard and delivery operation at all times, whilst building and maintaining successful working relationships with customers and colleagues to achieve maximum sales, margin and customer service.
Foster and promote a behavioral 'safety first' culture in which employees are risk aware and striving to achieve 'Target Zero', ultimately creating a safe environment for colleagues, customers and suppliers
Work with the Branch Manager, Transport team, Area Inventory Managers (AIM's), Operational and Sales colleagues to deliver an excellent order and delivery service for customers
Work with the Jewson Customer Score (JCS), and other customer service practices across SGBD to ensure customers receive a 'best in class' customer experience
Manage the transport/sales order process through ensuring all order tickets are transferred from the allocation board to the whiteboard, ensuring orders are printed, picked, loaded and delegated to the relevant driver terminals, whilst ensuring transport planning and compliance is fulfilled at all times
With the Branch Manager and cluster Managers, control transport and delivery schedules including driver breaks, and temporary cover at times of absence, holiday etc… to provide optimum customer service, within current legislation.
Ensure that maximum potential transport efficiencies and vehicle capacity is achieve for the cluster by ensuring that capacity is continually reviewed and created.
Devise and monitor routing, timing and allotment of runs to maximise efficiency and meet delivery deadlines
Ensure all commercial vehicle maintenance is managed, including MHE and Lorries, and daily defect reporting is actioned
Ensure own and staff product knowledge is maintained, in particular the home branch stock range
Ensure lorries are unloaded and loaded in a safe and secure manner, and maximum weights are not exceeded
Ensure all vehicles are dispatched at their agreed times of departurePreferred Experience and Knowledge for the role
Proven experience of managing and leading a team to successfully deliver results
Customer relationship management experience is essential, as is the ability to handle and resolve queries
Relevant product knowledge preferred, ideally gained within a similar industry
Fork lift experience desirable
Knowledge of transport legislation preferred
Ability to plan and organise self and a team to achieve maximum targets is essential - e.g. stock, yard and driver management etc…
A positive attitude with the ability to 'make things happen' is a must
Excellent communication skills are essential
Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team is essential
Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation is essential, with transport legislation being an advantage
Computer literate with previous knowledge of K8 being an advantage (training can be provided)Permanent Role Package / Benefits
