BRITAIN'S top 50 fleets could save an estimated £20 million through adopting specialist tyre-monitoring techniques. The claim comes from Kwik-Fit Fleet which, after installing implants known as tyre line controllers at a dozen major leasing and fleet management customers, has helped them reduce costs by £5 million in recent years.

Tyre line controllers have been installed at a number of companies including Autolease, Avis Fleet Services, Cowie Interleasing, Dial Contracts, Fleet Cost Management, Hertz Leasing, Highway Vehicle Leasing, Kenning Leaseline, Lease Plan, Lex Vehicle Leasing and Swan National Leasing.

The controllers work alongside each company's own staff managing tyre policy and related services and ensuring a vehicle's spare is used, a tyre is used for its maximum life, wheel alignment is based on what residual tyre wear remains and that a client's preferred-brand policy is met.
