VELO has reiterated calls for the Government to abandon its plans to introduce motorway tolls after new research confirmed them to be Britain's safest roads. In its latest Fleet Statistics Report, VELO says the Government would compromise driver safety if it imposed tolls on motorways, upon which just one in 12 or 8.3% of accidents occur compared with double the proportion on A-roads.

The survey also established that the average cost of a motorway accident is just half that of a typical B-road smash. Copies of the report, priced at £50, are available from VELO on 01628 488909.
