MERCEDES-Benz is adding three exclusive cars to its UK line-up and improving both safety and specification on other models. From June, the 3.6 litre E36 AMG becomes the sporting flagship of the E-class range. Just 10 cars will be available each month at a price of £53,500.

The six cylinder engine produces 272 bhp at 5,500 rpm with 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds and a governed top speed of 155 mph. The E280 will broaden the range of the E-class offering 193 bhp and a top speed of 143 mph. Like all E-class models it will be available in Classic, Elegance or Avant-garde specification giving a total of 19 E-class cars. The E280 costs from £31,900 to £34,700.

Saving the best till last, the SL60 AMG will cost £97,450 and will be the most exclusive SL sports car. Britain has been allocated just three cars a month. The car has a 5.0 litre V8 engine producing 381 bhp with a top speed governed to 155 mph.

All E-class and S-class models get side airbags as standard and will be fitted with a front passenger sensor allowing the airbag to trigger only if the seat is occupied. The E280 and E320 get five speed automatic transmission with cruise control. Elegance versions of the E200, E230 and E250 diesel get bigger alloy wheels. Engineering changes make the E200 3% more economical. S-class coupes will be rebadged CL and they gain standard leather trim and a parking radar system.
