THE Peugeot 406 has gained the highest residual values for models in the upper medium sector, according to the August edition of Glass's Guide. The new August edition of the guide rates every model in the 406 range ahead of its rivals, including the sector-leading Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra.

The 406 was launched at the turn of the year and Arnie Fenn, editor of Glass's Guide, said: 'It's an extremely strong start for a volume car like the Peugeot 406, but press reports have been good and supply appears limited. It's a desirable car and this has resulted in a good residual value.'

After 5,000 miles L, LX, SRi and GLX petrol and diesel models achieve 84% of list price, while Executive models achieve 82%. Vectra models achieve 82%, while the ageing Mondeo, which will shortly be facelifted, achieves 75%.
