AN air disaster on the other side of the world cast a shadow over two stands in the glittering Palexpo exhibition arena.

Proton chairman Yahaya Ahmad, who rescued the ailing Lotus Group last September and funded a big expansion programme, died in a helicopter accident in Pahang, Malaysia. His wife and the pilot were also killed. Saleh Sulong, Ahmad's second in command, has been appointed as new chairman. The company announced £7.5m of additional investment in new engineering test centres at Hethel.
