VOLKSWAGEN has combined with New Driving Initiatives to provide fleet driver training at reduced prices.

This is part of Volkswagen's Fleet Select scheme which aims to cut operating costs of fleets of more than 25 vehicles. Fleet Select members will qualify for driver training through Derby-based NDI at rates which Volkswagen fleet marketing manager Bernard Bradley said were a 'significant saving over market price'.

Courses include practical and theory sessions and for selected fleets Volkswagen will offer one free driver training place. Bradley said: 'Statistically, 65% of fleet drivers have an accident every year and 95% of accidents are down to human error. Fleets can reduce costs and enjoy benefits if they introduce driver training.'

About 10% of fleets use training courses. NDI figures for a fleet of 200 vehicles with a typical 65% accident rate show that over five years the cost of not undertaking driver training would be £464,811 while savings due to driver training could be £170,504. Eagle Star will give up-front insurance premium discounts to fleets based on their individual experience amounting to 10-60%.
