BMW is to invest £600 million in Rover this year - £130 million more than it invested in its UK car making subsidiary last year.

Following BMW's 1994 £800 million takeover of Rover the German company announced it would be investing about £500 million a year in Rover. But, this week BMW announced increased investment which will include further improvements at Rover's Solihull plant where Land Rover's new small Freelander off-roader will go into production later this year and at Cowley where a new paint shop and assembly hall are being built in readiness for production of the 600/800 replacement.
