TRAFFICMASTER is to export its information system to Germany heralding the start of a pan-European system which could be operating within 18 months. The Milton Keynes-based company has signed a 12-year agreement with Mannesmann Autocom to introduce its information on to the German autobahn network.

It will be installed and operated by a joint venture company formed between Mannesman Autocom and T-Mobil GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telecom. Under the terms of the agreement Trafficmaster will receive a fee for the licence, in addition to a one off site licence fee for each site installed on the network.

By mid-1998 8,000 kilometres of the autobahn will be covered and a local broadcaster transmitter network will be installed across the autobahn system by March 1 next year to enable Trafficmaster's integrated voice information system Oracle to operate throughout both the UK and Germany.
