BI-FUEL systems with full manufacturer warranty will be offered on 2.0-litre petrol-engined Transits through Ford dealerships from March next year, the manufacturer announced at the British International Motor Show. Independent engine specialist Tickford Engineering was called in by Ford to put together a development programme, which follows similar initiatives in the United States and Australia.

The Transit system has sequential, multi-point gas injection, resulting in exhaust emissions that are well below permissible European limits. Ford says both LPG and CNG versions have the potential of 50% reduction in tailpipe emissions and a reduction of up to 20% in CO2 production. The company adds there is no noticeable reduction in performance or fuel economy on LPG. Range on one tank of LPG is about 360 miles.
