RENAULT increased car prices by an average 0.7% and vans by 1% on October 1 - the first change to prices since February - but there are reductions in the French manufacturer's line-up. The entry-level Laguna - the RN 16v - increases £100 from £13,570 to £13,670, while the top of the range Executive 16v increases £350 from £18,770 to £19,020.

Similarly there is an increase of £25 for the entry level Clio 1.2 to £8,350.

At the top of the range it is all change with the new Clio Si 1.6 costing £10,995, up on the former Sport 1.4 which cost £10,640. Increases with the Scenic see the RT 1.6e go up from £14,025 to £14,150, and the RT 1.9dTi is now £15,200, up on its earlier price of £15,025.

Peugeot is limiting October price increases to its larger 406 and 806 models, keeping the 306, 106 and new 206 pricing static. The 406 models will go up by 0.86%, and the 806 models will rise by 0.79%. This sees the base model 406L 1.8 16v increase £145 from £14,085 to £14,230. The only 306 model to be increased is the Cabriolet up from £20,445 to £20,620.
