DIESEL sales continued their decline of recent months with the fall in fleet diesel sales outstripping the decline in the total new car diesel market. Fleet diesel sales last month were 20,292 (January 1997: 22,214) - down 8.7% in a total diesel market down 3.5% at 37,101 (38,458).

Despite the fall, number one fleet diesel manufacturer Peugeot saw sales increase 16.84% to 5,377 (4,602) with the Peugeot 306 and 406 taking the top two best-selling car slots in the chart. Of the other leading fleet diesel manufacturers Ford saw sales fall 38.46% to 3,446 (5,600) and Vauxhall saw sales drop 25.11% to 3.057 (4,082).
