VOLKSWAGEN'S updated Golf cabriolet made its UK debut at the Fleet Motor Show. The first model was shipped over especially for the event and showrooms around the country can expect deliveries to come on stream in the next few weeks. The latest four-seater has revised styling, giving it a similar look to the latest generation Golf hatchback and distinctive 'jewel-like' headlights, which show the bulbs behind clear glass.

Front and rear valances are smoothed out and the rear number plate moves down into the rear bumper. Seats are the same as those fitted to the Golf GTI, as is the steering wheel. The door-handles and brake release are chromed and the instruments are back-lit with VW's trademark blue. Dashboard plastics and door-tops have a sporty pixel inlay.

Under the bonnet, engines include the latest generation 1.6-litre 100bhp unit with dual-intake manifold which replaces the outgoing 1.8-litre 90bhp unit. There are also 1.8-litre 75bhp and 2.0-litre 115bhp options in the range. Side airbags are a low-cost option, anti-lock brakes are standard in all models, as are twin airbags and a factory-fitted RDS stereo. Prices range from around £15,700 to £22,000 on the road, although exact prices are yet to be announced.
