Forethought for the forecourt!

TRANSPORT group Arriva encapsulated the themes of the Government's integrated transport white paper by displaying double-decker buses on its dealership forecourts on Saturday. The company was promoting a balance between public and private transport usage, in a move which perfectly captured the current political and environmental climate.

'Car usage not car ownership is the important factor in the bid to cut down on traffic congestion,' said an Arriva spokesman. 'If we are to reduce congestion and respect the environment it is vital that motorists have some forethought on the forecourt and understand that in the future there will be an important balance to be reached between private and public transport usage.'
