PRICES for the new Peugeot 206 have been revealed as the first British-built model rolled off the production line on Monday. The new model, which goes on sale on November 5, starts at £8,320 for the 3-door 1.1-litre 206L up to £11,120 for the 5-door 206GLX 1.6-litre with air-conditioning, not including 12 months' road tax or £25 first registration fee.

Right-hand-drive models coming from the Ryton plant in Coventry will be available in four trim levels - L, LX, GLX and sporty XS - with three or five doors and 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol engines and a 1.9-litre normally-aspirated diesel. Direct injection diesels will appear early next spring. Standard equipment on all models gives power steering, height-adjustable steering column, driver's airbag, RDS stereo radio-cassette with remote control, engine transponder immobiliser, air recirculation and particle filter, intermittent front and rear wipers, double lens driver's door mirror and tinted glass.

From LX models upwards, customers can choose either an electric sunroof or air conditioning for the same basic price, although air conditioning is only included for the GLX. For £800 a fully-integrated satellite navigation system is available on GLX models. Cost options include metallic paint, ABS, alloy wheels and front passenger's airbag.
