FLEET NewsNet's sister publication Fleet News has joined with road safety organisation Brake to raise risk management awareness among fleet managers and drivers. The alliance aims to establish a permanent Road Risk Forum as a centre of excellence for fleet risk management.

This will commission, co-ordinate and collate risk management research and serve as a networking hub for fleet managers looking to share ideas or find solutions to specific problems. Mary Williams, Brake's director, said: 'Brake's planned initiatives to improve risk management among fleet operators and the safety of all motorists have the potential to save lives and radically improve the efficiency of UK fleets.'

The forum needs substantial practical and financial support, and Fleet News and Brake have called on car manufacturers and leading fleet suppliers to back the initiative. One of the forum's first goals will be to establish a common format for companies to record accident information so that a wealth of detailed, parallel data is compiled on each incident, allowing fleets to benchmark their accident records against one another.
