Vauxhall Motors announced today that from 1 November, it would become the first manufacturer in the automotive industry to enable customers to buy a new range of its most popular models directly using the internet.

'Thanks to our nationwide retail network, customers anywhere in the country will be able to buy a new car from Vauxhall online from the comfort of their own home,' said Nick Reilly, Vauxhall chairman and managing director. 'They can also sell their used car and even arrange finance directly on their PC. We believe we are the first manufacturer in the world, working with our retailers, to offer this service across a range of our products.'

People seeking to buy over the internet using the Vauxhall site will be able to select a car online and have it delivered to their door within about a week of placing their order. Customers will also be able to receive a detailed guide to the value of a part exchange vehicle, fix a test drive at home and arrange finance for the purchase of their new car.

Initially there will be six special '.com' cars, two each from the Corsa, Astra and Vectra ranges. Further models are expected later and they will be offered at attractive prices with the opportunity to redeem points up to £2,500 from a GM Card against the purchase. The exact prices and specifications of the new .com cars will be announced at the London Motor Show on 19 October.

The .com range will only be available through the internet but potential owners will, at any stage in the buying process, be able to contact Vauxhall or their dealer to seek individual guidance. That, Vauxhall believes, will ensure a smooth process and remove any concern for the buyer.
