PRICES for the new Fiat Punto start at £7,995 on-the-road for the 1.2-litre three-door rising to £13,495 for the range-topping 1.8 16v HGT three-door. Fiat announced prices at the London Motor Show, with the new varying little from the old model - entry price just £135 more than the outgoing vehicle.

The price policy follows the current trend among manufacturers for negative price rises in real terms despite specification and build quality improvements. Compared with the outgoing model, the new Punto's quality is improved and Fiat points to standard specification enhancements which include electronic power steering, driver's airbag, height adjustable driver's seat and steering, adjustable lumbar support on the driver's seat and convenience features such as 'follow-me-home' headlights and an automatic wash/ wipe facility. The new Punto also comes with a one-year/unlimited mileage warranty.
