VOLKSWAGEN is giving UK operators the chance to buy Caddy SDi vans at the same price as the less efficient SD until the end of the present millennium. The Caddy SDi claims to have the most efficient engine in its class and is being offered at £8,931 ex-VAT, a saving of £400.

The SDi is derived from Volkswagen's direct injection turbodiesel engine but is a naturally-aspirated version capable of returning 49mpg. Servicing intervals are 10,000 miles as opposed to 6,000 for the SD. Load capacity is 2.9 cubic metres and payload is 625kg. Included as standard fittings are driver airbag, immobiliser, four-speaker stereo radio/cassette, full height load partition, six lashing points, plastic loadfloor cover and half height wall lining.
