THE motor industry's highest accolade - the Castrol IMI Gold Medal - has been presented to Jaguar Cars and Nick Scheele, its chairman and chief executive.

The award, made at the Institute of the Motor Industry's annual dinner, recognises the individual or organisation judged to have made the greatest contribution to the advancement of road transport in a year. The manufacturer was recognised for achieving record sales of more than 50,000 vehicles last year, for the launch of the S-type, and the announcement to build the new compact executive car, X400, at its Halewood plant. Scheele was also nominated for his charity work.
