FLEETS cleaning up their act must ensure drivers of bi-fuelled vehicles stick to clean fuels, a gas conference was told. Keith Power, Calor Gas regional sales manager, said: 'With depot based fleets, the use is practically 100%, but some other fleets spend 50-80% of time on LPG. Fleet managers must make sure as much time as possible is spent using clean fuels to gain the savings predicted.'

The joint LP Gas Association and National Society for Clean Air conference heard that savings could run into hundreds of thousands of pounds, depending on the fleet size, but much of the saving depended on the constant use of LPG. Fleet managers have to balance the demand for staff to use alternative fuels as much as possible with the busy schedules they have to keep which can not be disrupted by constant hunts for forecourts with LPG pumps.
