LEASING and fleet management company Axus has signed up RAC Commercial Assistance to provide roadside cover for its growing van fleet. Axus operated 1,500 LCVs at the end of 1998 and expects its fleet to increase by 65% to 2,500 this year.

Alan Locke, Axus LCV manager, said: 'With time-dependent loads on board, you can't afford to hang around in a breakdown. If the element in a refrigerated unit has gone down or a tail lift has failed, you need action fast.'

RACCA will attend any Axus LCV breakdown, make a repair on the spot if possible — but if not, the organisation will arrange for the recovery of the vehicle and organise an immediate like-for-like replacement vehicle. The cover applies to both the UK and Europe. The RAC already provides breakdown and recovery services for Axus' car fleet.
